Robert Jacobs
President & CEO - V I Engineering
Mr. Robert "Bob" Jacobs is the President and CEO of V I Engineering. V I Engineering is his second "start up" company.
Upon graduating from St. Thomas College, MN, in 1972, Mr. Jacobs began his career with Control Data Corporation as a Systems Analyst. He spent 3 years in an operations research department for the Engineering Services Business Unit, working on logistics, repair center information systems, and inventory studies. He then moved to a financial analysis position in the corporate asset management department. This assignment entailed audits of operating units for receivables collection practices, inventory studies to prevent build-up of unwanted inventories, and review of policy regarding property, plant and equipment additions. In this capacity, he also sat on the Corporate Capital Equipment Review Board.
In 1978, Mr. Jacobs opted for a career change and was re-assigned to Detroit, MI to work in sales with the Cybernet Division. He worked in sales for 10 years, selling professional engineering and time-sharing services, and making the 100% club in 9 of those 10 years. His assignments included Ford Motor Co. for 1 year, and GM for 8 years, including his last 3 as Team Leader of the GM account.
In 1988, with the downsizing of Control Data well under way, Mr. Jacobs accepted a buy-out option and started his own engineering company, e3 Engineering and Management, Inc. With the express purpose of selling electrical engineering services to the automotive industry, Mr. Jacobs built that business to $3.5M/yr. with headcount of 35, before selling his share of the business and beginning V I Engineering, Inc. in November 1992
At V I Engineering, Inc. Mr. Jacobs has been the leader and motivator in a company that has earned a reputation for doing quality work at a fair price. He has grown the company to 50 employees and has expanded offices from the original one in Farmington Hills, MI to two additional locations in Vadnais Heights, MN and Indianapolis, IN. Under his guidance, the company has attained the status of Select Alliance partner to National Instruments of Austin, TX. Only 11 other companies worldwide share this status, although the Alliance network has more than 500 member companies. Mr. Jacobs has played a major role in hiring quality employees, including experienced managers for the operating units.
Mr. Jacobs has been a resident of Farmington Hills, MI for 21 years. He has a wife and 3 children, all of whom are in college or graduate school.
